Update from Lauren Owens

Hello support team!

Sorry I am just now getting an update out from the summer…it has been incredibly busy so far! I am currently in Myrtle Beach, SC with 110 college students and 5 other staff members for Campus Outreach’s Leadership Project. We arrived on June 1st and will be here til August 1st (so we’ve just crossed over the halfway point!)

I wanted to give you all a quick summary of what our weekly schedule looks like, so that you will have a better idea of what we’re doing here and know how to be praying. During the day on Monday-Friday, students work jobs at different places in the area of Myrtle Beach, like McDonald’s, WalMart, Build-a-Bear, Coldstone, etc. It has been amazing to see students really embracing their workplace this summer as their mission field. Many have shared the gospel with coworkers and some coworkers have even come out to our nightly meetings.

Weekly meeting schedule…..

  • Sunday– Church (we are attending 3 different churches in the community, so that students get to experience a variety of different gospel preaching churches); Prayer Training; Praise and Worship on Sunday nights
  • Monday– Theme Training (our theme for the summer is “Taste & See that the Lord is good”)
  • Tuesday– free night
  • Wednesday– discipleship groups (each room has a room leader, someone who has been to project before or is more mature spiritually, with 3-5 other students in the room that they’re helping to lead/disciple. This night is a formal time of discipleship and bible study together as a room, but these room leaders are doing informal leading with the students all week long!)
  • Thursday– Bible Study Training
  • Friday– Project Social (this night is reserved to do something fun with everyone on project to help build community among the students and to give them a break from their crazy schedules during the rest of the week)
  • Saturday– Evangelism Training & Beach Evangelism

The mission statement of Campus Outreach is “to glorify God by building laborers on the campus for the lost world.” All of these trainings and activities on the schedule at the Leadership Project are there for the purpose of running after this mission. Praise God that we truly have seen laborers built for the kingdom this summer at project…I look forward to sharing some specific stories of this happening in students in my next newsletter!

Thank you for your support, financially, prayerfully, and in the many ways all of you encourage me. I am thankful for the ways that the Lord has used you all to remind me that my labor in the Lord is never in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Hope you and your families are having great summers! I would love to hear what’s going on in your lives and how I can be praying for you…please shoot me an email back anytime!

Love,

Lauren Owens
